A village girl in Occupied France

A class met Madame Rolande Dupont who was 9 in 1940, when she saw her father going to the war and later had to flee her village, Ferrières-Haut-Clocher (S-W of Évreux).

She was particularly affected by the fact that her family was under the constant threat of being given away to the Occupying force.

Mme Dupont's grandfather stayed near the village while the rest of the family fled, joining the flows of refugees southwards.

In this letter (above) he describes the bombing of the village that took place on June 14, when fighting took place nearby between German and Franch and Sottish troops.

Thanks to Mrs Dupont's account, a remembrance pannel was set up in two villages and the town of Conches-en-Ouche, in June 2019
