A group of students discovers the site and the stakes of the battle on Hill 112 in June-August 1944.

The group was fortunate that Gilles Osmont and Vincent Dussutour from association Odon-Cote 112 were there to share some of their expertise on this site

Presentation by Nogaye, student from the school:

"On 2 October our school had the chance of being invited at the ceremony for the "Freedom Prize". That ceremony is part of the 'Normandy for Peace' forum, a meeting where people who work for peace in different countries are gathered.

It was really interesting because we learned that a lot of inequalities remain today. To illustrate this, the winner of the Freedom Prize, Loujain Al Khatoul is an activist fighting for women's rights. She is currently in jail because she continues her fight against the patriarcal system in her country.

She is really inspiring."

Amongst activities the students were involved in during those 2 days in Caen:

- discovering issues of history & memories at Hill 112;

- taking part in workshops on peacekeeping (see photo of a group discovering how the United Nations' Organisation worked);

- Meeting people such as Nicolas Hulot or Mrs Rudland, former journalist and today a writer (see 2 students exchanging views, left);

- presenting the school's book (see pictures below)

A group of pupils wrote an invitation to one of the participant. Marcia, a student, explains why:

Sulaman Shaikh is the founder and CEO of the 'Shaikh Group'.

The purpose of this initiative is to build relationships without the formalities that other diplomatic actors have to follow.

Thanks to that, they can get closer to inhabitants and are more open to them. One of Mr Shaikh's goals is to gather Kurds and Arabs all together. He started this action 2 years ago. Here is one of his quotes:

"The road to peace takes time."
