ACCOUNTS FROM THE POST-WW2 GENERATIONS

May 2020

The Cold War as seen through the eyes of three US veterans

Mike Andert has been working with us to allow interviews of his uncle Paul to take place. He had the brilliant idea of organising a talk with two of his former school mates. The three of them are Cold War veterans and share their memories with a school group

Mike did everything: set up the talks, called his former mates and provided the documents shown here

Many thanks to Loane as well: she sent questions ahead to organise the talk

For Mike Andert, events from the 1962 Cuban crisis had long-lasting effects

Lt Commander, USN Greg Boschert was a helicopter pilot in the US Navy in the 1980s and 1990s

Greg’s brother, USAF Colonel K. Boschert flew B-52s. The US Strategic Air Command kept 24/7 alert during Cold War.

Mike reminded us that the NATO base in Évreux was a strategic place until 1966 in the context of operations in Western Europe
